Accomplishments

The mission of the Columbiettes is to serve our church and our community primarily in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus, but also on our own.  As we grow, we will continue to do more and more in our community.  We wanted to highlight for anyone interested, the functions we have been involved in thus far, to give everyone a better idea of what we are all about.

After only being organized for a few months we have managed to do quite a bit:

  • Right out of the gate, one of our first projects was to assist the church's Giving Tree project by baking goods and delivering them to our senior parishioners.  It was a joy to visit with them during the holiday season!

  • Another holiday season endeavor was to assist the St. Paul Girl Scouts by donating new socks and toiletry items for gift bags being assembled for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

  • Our first joint effort with the Knights was to assist them in putting on the First Annual Down on the Bayou Seafood Festival.  The Knights were doing this jointly with the Youth to raise money for Pass Christian.

  • Started one of our first Columbiette fundraisers.  We had great fun while preparing our meals at Let's Eat and Let's Eat donated $10 to the Columbiettes for each participant. This is an on-going fundraiser for us, so just mention the code word "Columbiettes" if you go to Let's Eat and you will be helping us out!

  • Teamed up with the Knights on the St. Valentine's Day Dance.  We had great fun helping to decorate and making desserts for everyone to enjoy!

  • Our First Annual Easter Lily Fund raiser was a huge success! We raised $798 for the Columbiettes to be put to future use in our community or to cover future Columbiette expenses.  This is a fundraiser that we plan to do each year going forward.

  • Another first for us, was our yard sale, which was also a huge success!  We raised $1,035 which was split evenly between the Columbiettes and St. Vincent de Paul to help defray some of their summer expenses.  This will also be an ongoing fundraiser in the coming years.

  • We took on our first youth activity, which was to sponsor the Annual St. Paul Spelling Bee.  This was so much fun!  This is something that has been sponsored by the Knights in years past, but they have graciously given this over to us and we are so excited to be able to take this on each year!

  • "Caring Hearts with Loving Stitches" is a group for knitters and crocheters.  Judy Cunniff, a sister Columbiette who transferred to our auxiliary from Fr. Lopez, had started this group in 2005 at Fr. Lopez.  That group donated 40+ items which included 20+ chemo caps to St. Anthony's, baby hats to All Children's, and blanket and hats with scarves for the Seamen project… "Christmas at Sea". Now that Judy is here with us she is spear-heading this project for our auxiliary and we hope to be up and 'knitting' soon!
