TOP STORY: THIRD ANNUAL TEXAS HOLD'EM POKER TOURNAMENT IS HUGE SUCCESS
|
|
The Third Annual Knights of Columbus Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament was a huge success! The event, chaired
by Knight Pat Russell, drew 65 players who vied for fantastic prizes as many on-lookers enjoyed a
wonderful atmosphere and delicious food courtesy
of Pepin's Restaurant. Dan Coyle was the grand prize winner. Dan took home two Tampa Bay Lightning
Luxury AFS Club Tickets which include amenities and parking. With that, he received a Vinny Lecavalier
autographed Lightning jersey with certificate of authenticity. The grand prize, valued at $775.00,
was generously donated by Brumbelow Drechsel Law Group, www.bdlawgroup.com. The 2nd place prize went
to Van Tran: a round of golf for four at St. Petersburg Country Club valued at $265. Mike Rice won 3rd
place, a $200 Home Depot gift card and Bruce Ford came in 4th with a $100 Home Depot gift card.
Many thanks to our generous event sponsors: Autoway Ford, Pinellas Diesel Services, Inc. and Meirose
and Friscia, P.A. and to our table sponsors: Southeast Fleet Auto Sales, Inc., R&B Auto Body, Inc.,
Bright House Networks, Swift Funding Corporation, Express Mobile Concrete, Peter C. Wassmer, M.D.P.A.
When all the chips were cashed in, St. Paul's Knights of Columbus through the generosity of its parish
and with the help of the Columbiettes, raised $4,000 to be given to our charities. Thanks again to all
who helped and participated in a tournament where everyone came away a winner!
Be sure to see the great photos.

KNIGHTS PART OF GROTTO RESTORATION |
|
The Knights of St Paul's Council 13657, under the direction of Sir Knight Brad Brasseur, played an important
role in the restoration of the Grotto, which was completed in time for the dedication Mass for the newly
renovated church. While the design, landscaping, and paving was completed by parsioner Jim Cuneen
of Southern Exteriors, the Knights did most of the heavy
demolition and preparation. On a hot June 3, 2006 morning, a great showing of our men turned out with various tools to
remove the overgrown vegetation that was choking the grotto. This continued with a second phase of concrete
demolition and removal just before the final landscaping was completed. Said Father Gibbons, "The grotto was built back
in 1935 or so, by the men of the parish, in honor of Our Lady of Lourdes. I think it only appropriate that the men of the
parish, particularly the Knights, take part in this refurbishment. After all, our Blessed Mother is the patroness of
the Knights."

KIDS FESTIVAL GAMES |
|
Starting even before we received our charter, with the 2004 St Paul's School Festival, the Knights of
Columbus Council 13657 has taken charge of the Kid's Games Booths. This year the Knights donated all
prizes and took care of all expenses, so net proceeds from the Kid's Games at the 2007
Festival was nearly $4,000, which is about two thousand dollars over last year's net.
Every shift was covered, with many Knights working more than one shift. Also helping out were several Columbiettes
as well as many parents and some St Pete Catholic High School students.
Check out the photos from the last festival!

UNDERWEAR DRIVE |
|
Many times, a shower and clean underclothes is the first step a homeless person
takes in rebuilding his or her life. While homeless shelters routinely accept used
clothing, for obvious reasons underwear is not accepted. This year's underwear drive,
our council's second, was held during the month of April, 2008, after all Masses.
